The Association of Bulgarian Energy Agencies (ABEA) is a non-governmental organisation bringing together energy agencies operating at national, regional and local levels across Bulgaria. ABEA serves as a platform for cooperation, knowledge exchange and joint action, with a focus on advancing sustainable energy development and supporting the transition towards a climate-neutral and low-carbon economy. The Association promotes innovation, facilitates the exchange and adoption of European good practices, and supports public authorities, businesses and other stakeholders in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition.
Our Mission
ABEA’s mission is to contribute to Bulgaria’s sustainable energy development and the achievement of its climate and energy objectives by:
- Improving energy efficiency and promoting the efficient and sustainable use of energy resources;
- Accelerating the uptake of renewable energy sources and supporting the transition towards a clean energy system;
- Strengthening the capacity of local and regional authorities to plan and implement effective energy and climate measures;
- Building expertise and institutional capacity through knowledge sharing, professional development and cooperation;
- Facilitating dialogue and partnerships among public authorities, businesses, civil society and other stakeholders.
What We Do
ABEA supports the development and implementation of sustainable energy and climate solutions through a broad range of activities, including:
- Participation in national and European projects focused on energy, climate action, sustainability and the green transition;
- Contribution to the development and implementation of energy and climate policies at national, regional and local levels;
- Provision of expert advice and technical support to municipalities, public institutions, businesses and other stakeholders;
- Organisation of training programmes, workshops, conferences and awareness-raising campaigns to strengthen knowledge and capacity;
- Facilitation of partnerships and cooperation networks among energy agencies and other organisations in Bulgaria and across Europe;
- Promotion and dissemination of innovative solutions and European best practices in the field of sustainable energy.
Our Role
ABEA plays an active role in fostering dialogue and cooperation among public institutions, local and regional authorities, businesses, civil society and citizens. As a representative platform for Bulgarian energy agencies, the Association contributes to the exchange of expertise and experience and supports the transfer of European knowledge and good practices to the national and local context. ABEA works to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders to respond effectively to the energy and climate challenges facing Bulgaria and to contribute to the achievement of European and national climate, energy and sustainability objectives. Through cooperation, expertise and innovation, ABEA seeks to support a more energy-efficient, resilient and sustainable Bulgaria and to strengthen the role of local and regional actors in the clean energy transition.
